Even though the book of John covers the same basic outline of Jesus’s life as the other three gospels; it contains marked differences in content and viewpoint. John highlights many encounters with the son of God that are found nowhere else; the miracle of Cana, the visit by Nicodemus, the Samaritan woman at the well, a lame man at the pool of Bethesda, the man born blind, and the beloved Lazarus. Johns choices of what to include are governed by a clear goal: “These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the son of God” (20:31)
