At the end of Joshua chapter 5, Joshua was confronted by someone on his way to Jericho. Joshua was so full of confidence he had no fear and questioned this man who was carrying a sword, “Are you friend or foe?” This man was the commander of the Lord’s army so I imagine this man to be no weak-looking being. Joshua was not afraid because of his confidence in God. Once Joshua found out who he was, he humbled himself and took off his sandals as he was instructed to. When I’m in the Lord’s presence, I too have to make sure I humble myself. I was full of pride before I came back to Christ and sometimes it still lingers around, but the Holy Spirit convicts me (and my wife) to keep me in check, as the commander did to Joshua, reminding him he’s on Holy Ground. Take off your sandals when God tells you to, He is preparing you for something great!
