What stood out to me in the reading of 1 Samuel was the when David was anointed as the next king. Though he did not assume this role until Saul’s subsequent death. In the interim, David remained humbled and continue to be a servant to king Saul. Philippians describes what Jesus did when He walked in human form:

Philippians 2:7-8 (NLT) 7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, 8 he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

As we grow in become leaders in ministry, let us not forget that being a leader is being a humble servant – servant leadership. It’s not about a role or title, it’s about remaining obedient to God and humbling ourselves to the Lord.
