1 & 2 Kings chronicles the history of Israel during the period of the monarchy from the closing days King David’s rule until the time of the Babylonian exile. After King Solomon’s reign the narrative chronicles the division of the kingdom and then presents an interrelated account of developments.  That occurred within the two kingdoms. Special attention was given to the ministries of Elijah and also Elisha in the Northern kingdom.  Almost a third of the book is devoted to God’s efforts to use his prophets.  To turn the kingdom away from it’s tergiversation back to covenant faithfulness. The authority of the kingship was plagued with instability and also violence as well. There was approximately twenty rulers that ruled the kingdom.  For a time period of approximately 345 years.  Until the fall of Jerusalem in 586.
