Joshua is divinely appointed as the leader of Israel. God addressed him directly and promised him the land that He had promised Moses as well as His divine presence. God commands Joshua to be strong and courageous. The crossing of the Jordan River was God’s way of exalting Joshua in the eyes of Israel.
