The book of II Peter was written shortly before Peter’s death. Peter was dealing with the problems that he knew would remain after he was gone. Peter was encouraging all of the believers to continue to grow in the Lord. He wanted them to realize the truth of the gospel. Peter also warned them of false teachers that would destroy the truth by exalting their own ideas over those of the church. The world is always seeking to undo the work of God, but as Christians we must resist all the pressures by believing in the truth which is God’s Word, living godly lives, trusting God, enduring persecution, and looking and waiting for Christ’s return. Peter reminded them that one day this world will be destroyed, therefore we should not become attached to it.
