The book of Samuel is about Samuel, Saul and David. Samuel spoke for God as he was a man that grew up in God’s house. People of Israel wanted a King. Samuel, led by God , chose Saul to lead the people. The central message of the book is that the people demanded a King. The word prayer is used 30 times in the book. All Israelites recognized that Samuel really was a prophet of the Lord. The Lord anointed Saul to be the Kind of the people. Saul tried to kill David because of Jealousy. We can find this in 1Samuel 18:7-11. David was hated by Saul. David was anointed to be king . He was chosen by the Lord.
