1 Timothy is one of the Pastoral epistles that focuses on Paul’s best friend and disciple, Timothy, and the part he should play in the church. It was important to Paul to outline the most Godly road for Timothy so that he would be able to manage the new church in Ephesus and help Paul to deliver the message of life to a dying world. Paul calls him “O man of God” and truly, he was named aright by his mother, Eunice because his name means “Dear to God” or “Honored by God.” Because he was taught the scriptures by his mother and grandmother, Lois, everything that Paul speaks to him about makes sense to him. Church conduct, ministry, and keeping the word pure and free from legalism is sorted out for Timothy by Paul so that, being younger, he could carry the hefty charge of keeping the church in good order. Certainly, Timothy was “Dear to God” and Paul as well.
