Samuel was the son of Hannah who was barren but prayed to the Lord for a son. She promised the Lord if He gave her a son she would give him back to the Lord which she did. Samuel was the final judge over the Israelite’s. When Samuel was too old go Judge his sons did they they were corrupt so the people demanded a king be appointed like other nations had. Samuel warned he people that a king was not the answer but they insisted so the Lord gave them the king they requested. The first king was Saul. God was with Saul until Saul became disobedient and only partially obeyed a command so God left him. then God chose David as King. David was a good king, he followed Gods commands and when he sinned with Bathsheba he repented and the Lord forgave him.
