I have to believe that it was not easy for the nation of Israel to learn God’s ways and allow themselves to be a people set apart. The reason I believe it was not easy is because I compare it and reflect on my own life. It was not easy to totally surrender as we have a natural sense of wanting to be in control. Even though we have God’s Spirit dwelling within us, we need to be reminded of his nearness and foster the sense of his presence. That is what God did for the children of Israel, he dwelt with in the midst of sinful people as a sign of his forgiveness and grace to those he has redeemed and that is what he continues to do for us today.
